My new CD, The Bright and Hollow Sky, is being released on May 31! It is a cycle of pieces written for ICE over the last few years. The performances are fantastic, and it was recorded at the state-of-the-art concert hall at the Experimental Media and Performing Arts Center at RPI. More information on my discs page and excerpts can be heard at New Focus Recordings. The disc will be available for sale at the release party, on my shop page, and at the New Focus site. Lincoln Center opened their Tully Scope Festival in February 2011 with "Bells" (click for more information), my new half-hour work for a few winds, many mobile chimes, and all the mobile phones of the audience. I am writing several new works for the International Contemporary Ensemble's new ICElab program, writing pieces for soprano Tony Arnold and large ensemble, for bassoonist Rebekah Heller and 4-channel processing, presented in portrait programs at (le) Poisson Rouge in New York on May 31, and and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago on June 4. There is a blog post about the music here.Fall 2011 will bring the premiere of Mozart's Sister, a monodrama conceived and performed by actress Sylvia Milo. I am writing music for the international production together with Phyllis Chen.
I have also written a new snare solo, commissioned by the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra's Modern Snare Drum Competition. Scores can be ordered here. The Meehan/Perkins Duo has recorded a beautiful version of "Diving Bell", to be released on Bridge Records in Fall 2011. Claire Chase's debut solo cd is out and opens with my piece "pneApnea". More info is available at New Focus Recordings. Doug Perkins recorded "Simple Songs of Birth and Return" for mbira and electronics. It will be on Doug's forthcoming solo disc, but for now you can hear it at www.dougperkins.com. Memory Spaces, my debut solo cd, includes three of my pieces for percussion and other objects with electronics, as well as Kaija Saariaho's gorgeous "Six Japanese Gardens". It is available through the shop page of this site, at cdbaby.com, and downloadable through iTunes. light-painting portrait above by Aurora Crowley, created in a single 2-minute exposure - and no photoshop
